- Title
THE REGRESSION TO RIGHT ANGLES TENDENCY AND THE POGGENDORFF ILLUSION. I.
- Authors

- Abstract
The theory that 'angle' visual illusions like the Zöllner and the Poggendorff are due to the lines forming the sides of angles being deflected in such a way as to make the angles nearer to right angles, was tested by obtaining judgements of the orientation of both lines in simplified versions of the Poggendorff and Zöllner illusions. The theory was confirmed, although the deflexion was only slight in the cases of lines in a vertical orientation.
