- Abstract
The article discusses that the nationwide power outage in Zambia led to health and safety risks in the operations in the mining industry. It was reported that 300 miners at the Chilibombwe and Nkana were stranded underground while doing mining operations due to electric power failures. Luanshya Copper Mines also suspended their operations due to the power outage in Zambia. According to Derek Webbstock, Luanshya's chief executive, the company estimated a net loss of $5m from their production loss and flood damage to electrical equipment.
