- Abstract
The article examines the second language acquisition of the prepositional case in German by primary school children with Albanian as their mother tongue. It is found that the children have difficulties with marking the prepositional case and that the morphological opacity within nominal phrases complicates the acquisition of the prepositional case system. It is also noted that little research has been conducted on the second language acquisition of German by Albanian-speaking learners. The present study investigates the omission of articles and contractions in prepositional phrases (PPs) in German learners. It is found that the omission of articles mainly occurs when using the preposition "in," while contraction errors are rare. The errors in contractions indicate uncertainties in assigning gender and case, as well as in choosing the correct preposition. The prepositional assignment of the nominative case is correctly applied by most learners. Gender errors are also identified. The analysis shows that the acquisition of prepositional case government poses difficulties for the learners.
