The article discusses the legal aspects of text messages in relation to the use of technology by physicians and other health care professionals in the transmission of health care and clinical medicine communications. According to the article, health information is legally protected by the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and America's Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009.
