- Abstract
Furthermore, the authors argue that much of the secessionist strategies were similar to the ones used by the political authorities that have engaged in democratic and rule of law backsliding blueprints in some EU member states, particularly in Poland and Hungary. The rule of law is one of the fundamental principles of Europe's constitutional heritage which is said to be common to the forty-six Member States of the Council of Europe, twenty-seven of which are members of the EU.
