- Title
TOO YOUNG TO FIGHT: ANARCHIST YOUTH GROUPS AND THE SPANISH SECOND REPUBLIC.
- Authors
GETMAN-ERASO, JORDI
- Abstract
The article discusses the juventudes libertarias (libertarian youth) movement in early-20th-century Spain. According to the author, young anarchists in organizations such as Juventudes Libertarias de Catalunya (JLC) and Federación Ibérica de Juventudes Libertarias (FIJL) differed significantly from other young activists in Spain and in Europe because they eschewed violence. It is suggested that anarchist youth were celebrated for their rejection of violence and were seen as ideologically pure, but that they found this stance impossible to hold after the onset of the Spanish Civil War.
