- Abstract
The article discusses the experiences of cantor William Sharlin working as music director for various Jewish summer camps, with focus given to his work at camps in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and Saratoga, California. Sharlin's dedication to teaching campers music that was connected to Jewish values and customs is explained, as is his use of traditional songs that focused on brotherhood and social justice. Sharlin's role in introducing the guitar and camp-style songs into Reform Jewish synagogue services is also explained.
