Harris, Victor
- Abstract
The article appreciates the financial help of an unexpected philanthropist to the Hebrew Benevolent Society in 1898 in Los Angeles, California. The society was in need of additional funds required for their social services for those who are in poverty but they have no idea where to get such amount. However, an unexpected donation of money sufficient for their needs came just right in time from the wealthy Samuel family in England. The donor pointed out that their money is their way of expressing their gratitude for the society's help in caring for their sick son Frank H. Samuel and arranging his burial when he died. He also emphasized on the significance of the society to British Jews as well as the continuance of their good work in giving care for the sick and burying dead.
