- Abstract
The article discusses the theme of shipwrecks and marooned passengers and mariners in English literature. The book "Robinson Crusoe" by Daniel Defoe is discussed at length as a marked shift in eighteenth century fiction. Terms including national identity, travelogue, Utopian fiction, satire, and religious and philosophical treatises are mentioned.
