The article presents the text of a speech by Payam Akhavan, professor at McGill University Faculty of Law in Montreal, Quebec, delivered at the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Council on International Law held in Ottawa, Ontario on October 24, 2019. Topics discussed include the emergence of the term global village introduced by philosopher Marshall McLuhan in the 1960s, the struggle of the Indigenous community due to colonialism, and the interdependence of humankind.
