- Title
Was There an Austrian Literature in Exile?
- Authors
Pfanner, Helmut F.
- Abstract
This article focuses on the existence of the Austrian exile literature during World War II. Groups were formed by Austrian exile writers in countries wherein German-language exiles lived during the Third Reich, with the purpose of supporting their national identity and preserving their socio-historical heritage. These exile writers demanded that the foreign public supports the concept of Austria as a separate cultural and political entity. Most of the periodicals and books published by German-language exile writers from Austria were centered on the Austrian subject matter. Austrian exile writers put emphasis on their cultural heritage, which they consider an important task in their fight against the Nazis.
