- Abstract
This article presents an obituary for Hans Wellisch who is considered as the dean of indexers. He died on February 6, 2004 due to complications from diabetes. He was 83 years old. He was the author of one of the most authoritative books on indexing, "Indexing From A to Z." His interests comprised all aspects of bibliographic control with special emphasis on indexing. Wellisch advocated best standard indexing practice against other possibly antagonistic parties and is a firm believer in the necessity for the establishment and maintenance of standards.
