- Abstract
The article discusses the study which examines the predictive value of admission criteria in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) in Prince George, British Columbia. It aims to identify whether the admission or selection used by the UNBC social work program predict academic success as defined by the final grade point average (GPA). The study found that characteristics related to age, gender, Aboriginal status, community of origin, and parental status did not differ college entry and university entry students. However, the outcomes in terms of their academic success show some difference. It suggests that GPA at admission is the only reliable selection criterion that predicts academic success in the UNBC social work program.
