- Abstract
Based on the operation principle of compressed air energy storage system (CAES) with twostage packed bed unit, the unsteady analysis models of compressor, turbine, packed bed heat accumulator and air storage cavern were established. In order to analyze the whole thermodynamic performance and the operational characteristics of each component at the given charge power, the charge-discharge behavior of the proposed system was simulated. The results show that the system charge-discharge efficiency is only 54. 33% at the given charge power, which is reduced by about 8. 07% compared with an integrated charge-discharge cycle. Meanwhile, the isentropic efficiencies of both compressors have a wide variation range caused by the effect of real charge power, only 77. 13% of electric energy is converted into internal energy of compressed air. Also, the isentropic efficiencies of high-low pressure turbines decline with the decrease of turbine inlet air temperature, which is far away from the design condition. In addition, the sum of exergy loss of compressors and turbines accounts for 81. 51% of total exergy loss.
