- Abstract
About one hundred miniatures and small pictures from the 16th to 19th century have been preserved in the picture collections of South Bohemian castles. These include very rare portrait miniatures and small portraits from the 16th and 17th centuries. During the preparation of the exhibition "Forms and Stories. Portraits of Renaissance Aristocracy", held from 13 October 2017 to 4 March 2018 in the Stables of the Sternberg Palace in Prague, nine portrait miniatures from the Bucquoy collection of the Rožmberk Castle were selected for the exhibition. The exhibition was preceded by an artistic- historical and restoration survey. Subsequently, the portraits were completely restored. The fi ndings of both surveys of a small set of small portraits, regarding their dating and identification of the por-trayed, were surprising.
