- Title
It Takes More Than a Village: The Decline of the Community Bank.
- Authors
Narter, Bart
- Abstract
The article describes banking trends in the U.S. It says that the smallest banks in the U.S. are disappearing with their number declining from 11,462 in 1992 to 7,085 in 2008. The decline is due to the growing complexity in the U.S. of business, regulatory overhead, and banking technology. According to the article, these requirements overwhelm the smaller banks which do not have the scale and infrastructure to acquire the required in-house systems and develop competitive product offerings.
