The article focuses on the photography of landscape and cuty and rural life in southern Utah by photographer Dorothea Lange in the mid-20th century. Topics include Lange's photography of the communities of Toquerville, Gunlock and St. George that appeared in the September 6, 1954 issue of "LIFE" magazine, her photography of Escalante which emphasize the city's pioneer heritage, and photography work for the U.S. Farm Security Administration.
