- Abstract
The article underscores the first record of the channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, in central Italian waters. It states that in Italy, 39 of the 82 freshwater fish species are alien, while 70% of the native species have become extinct. Relative to this, a total of 167 specimens were caught in a research funded by the Amministrazione Provinciale of Grossetto. The features of the fishes that were captured are also mentioned. Moreover, fifteen sampling exercises were conducted between July and October 2006 using gillnets. It also mentions that the channel catfish was caught together with the Iberian barbel, Barbus graelsii Steindachner and the Danubian barbel, Barbus barbus.
