- Abstract
The increasing population of the elderly has increased the importance of elderly care. Municipalities are facing demographic challenges due to the growing number of older people and the resulting increased need for health care services. Especially the care of the elderly who live alone at low socio-economic level is under the responsibility of local governments. With this study, it was aimed to determine the life satisfaction and burnout of the personnel providing elderly care services in local governments. This study was applied to 148 employees working in Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Department of Social Services, Elderly Services and Compassion Houses Branch Directorate, Elderly Service Center. "Maslach Burnout Inventory" consisting of three subdimensions in determining employee burnout, "Life Satisfaction Scale" developed by Diener et al. in determining life satisfaction. The average of Burnout Inventory points of the individuals participating in the study is 54.12 ± 7.78, the average of emotional exhaustion is 17.15 ± 6.92, depersonalization is 7.70 ± 3.12 and the average of personal failure is 29.26 ± 5.56. The life satisfaction scale average score is 23.58 ± 5.91. There is a significant relationship between satisfaction with life, and to take education for elderly care, being satisfied to care for the elderly, perceived income level, and years of aged care work. There is a significant relationship between burnout and gender, marital status, being satisfied to care for the elderly, and daily caregiving time. There is a negative and meaningful relationship between burnout and life satisfaction of elderly care personnel [r = -0.340; p <0,01], which shows that as the burnout of the elderly care personnel increases, satisfaction with life decreases.
