Laminar flow separation readily occurs when fluid flows past an obstacle at high Reynolds number. Control of separation can be exercised by, for example, suction at the boundary or suitable slot injection. In this paper we demonstrate that if a circular cylinder, placed in a uniform stream, performs suitable very small amplitude oscillations, at a very high frequency, then flow separation may be delayed and even prevented altogether.
