- Abstract
This contribution examines the potential of relational accounts of agency to inform research on ‘doing transitions’ in interdisciplinary studies of the life course. As such, two polar conceptions of agency are assessed. Archer’s realistic-reflexive position is contrasted with Gergen’s social constructionist approach. Following up on the latter, I argue that a relational-relativistic position is more suitable to break new ground. Finally, methodological fundamentals of a non-dualistic, non-anthropozentric relationism which embraces the material are sketched.
