- Abstract
Robert's "Der Pavian" parodies Beer's play by setting a learned, well-spoken baboon in the place of the Indian pariah. Engelsberg publishes Robert's text here for the first time, theorizing that the extant manuscript, held today in the Varnhagen collection, Biblioteka Jagiellonska, in Krakow, was likely sent directly by Robert to his sister. On January 26, 2022, Leora Batnitzky and Vivian Liska presented at the Center's Second Annual Naharaim Symposium, addressing the theme of "Carl Schmitt and the Theological-Political Predicament: Affirmations and Antidotes in Jewish Political Thought.".
