The article discusses the claim made in literature that, cross-linguistically, the perfective aspect has a tendency to be less compatible with negation, in comparison to the imperfective aspect. The imperfective and perfective aspects appear in both affirmatives and negatives, in the Bagirmi language, but the completive marker emphasizing the completion of the action in perfective aspect is not compatible with negation, arising from a grammatical restriction.
