- Abstract
The article reports on how the indigenous people of Chiapas are suffering from impunity at the hands of the Mexican government. It presents a background of Chiapas' Spanish conquest, ethnic diversity and its Mayan heritage. It offers information on the wealth of natural resources and revolutionary spirit of Mexico's southernmost state. The article also cites the commitment of the armed rebel group Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) to protecting the rights of the indigenous people of Chiapas.
