- Abstract
The article highlights the important role of genetics as an aid in the development of drugs for individuals who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) presented by doctor Hugh C. Watkins in Oxford, England. He notes the role of perhexiline to improve myocardial energy deficiency and improves diastolic function in patients symptomatic exercise limitations caused by nonobstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He states that gene confers susceptibility and when it is used as a drug targets, the small size of genetic effects matter only a little. He mentions the need to undergo series of tests for genetic profiling for personalizing medicine to predict disease risk.
