Local governments under pressure: The commodification of stability maintenance.
- Abstract
The article presents an analysis of the commodification of social stability maintenance in China that has put pressure on local governments. It mentions the adoption of such governments to a logic of zero incidents in order to appear to be making progress on social stability. Further, the local authorities of China also embraced an approach that arrest of petitioners which is done locally through the centres for maintaining stability at every administrative level.
