- Abstract
Sementes de Commiphora lepthophloeos (Mart.) J.B.Gillet (Burseraceae) apresentam baixa porcentagem de germinação em condições de laboratório, porém, observa-se um elevado número de plântulas em áreas de ocorrência natural desta espécie. Assim, o objetivo do presente estudo foi entender o comportamento fisiológico das sementes de C. lepthophloeos quando submetidas às condições naturais presentes nos solos da Caatinga e avaliar a capacidade de formação de um banco de sementes permanentes. As sementes foram mantidas em câmara fria (7 ± 2°) (CF); enterradas com profundidade de 5 cm (EC) e mantidas na superfície do solo (SC), ambas sob a copa dos parentais; enterradas a 5 cm de profundidade (EF) e na superfície do solo (SF), ambas em locais abertos, sem influência da vegetação. A germinabilidade foi avaliada em intervalos de 0, 3, 6, 9 e 12 meses. Para que ocorra a germinação é necessário um período de pós-maturação, que é favorecido pela permanência das sementes em campo, no tratamento (EF), houve um aumento de 90%, quando enterradas por 3 meses. Além disso, a espécie não é capaz de formar banco de sementes permanentes nos solos da Caatinga, pois a germinação é drasticamente reduzida após 12 meses de armazenamento em condições naturais ou artificiais.
