- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of slave stealing in the United States during the 19th century. The author discusses the expansion of the slave trade between the Middle Atlantic states and the lower Mississippi River valley after the War of 1812, explains the differences between slave stealing and the kidnapping of free blacks, and explores the life of fugitive slave Madison Henderson.
