- Abstract
A commentary published in the European Heart Journal questions the conclusion that the threshold for prophylactic aortic surgery should be lowered to 50 mm. The authors argue that the occurrence of aortic events in the first few months after surgery raises questions about the validity of the results. They also highlight the need for accurate and up-to-date measurements of aortic diameter, as well as the risks associated with the surgical procedure itself. Ultimately, they conclude that there is insufficient evidence to support the proposed threshold for prophylactic surgery in patients with ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm.
