IMPORTANCE OF HOME PHYSICAL THERAPY IN HEALTH PROMOTION AND DISABILITY PREVENTION.

- Abstract
Health is a core element in quality of life, but poverty, marginalization, limited access to primary health care, and lack of health promotion knowledge compromise health. The aim of the paper is to determine the importance of home physical therapy in health promotion and disability prevention for persons with cerebral palsy. As part of project "The realization of equality for children and adolescents with cerebral palsy of the Canton of Sarajevo", 134 members of the Association of persons with Cerebral Palsy, were interviewed. After five years, 13 members were eliminated, 7 of them died. Results: Of 121 participants, 102 (84,30 %) participants had spastic cerebral palsy, 4 (3,31 %) mixed type of cerebral palsy, 7 (5,79 %) discinetic cerebral palsy, 1 (0,83 %) ataxic cerebral palsy and 7 (5,79 %) members of Association had uncompleted files. Wheel chair have 47 (38,84%) and diapers use 43 (35,54%) persons with CP. The most common orthopedic aids are wheel chairs and orthopedic shoes. High percentage of older members of Association use diapers. Of sample of 121 participants, 44 (36,36 %) members of Association, 29 male and 15 female, did not have home physical therapy under Projects of Association of Cerebral Palsy of the Canton Sarajevo. Four participants with mixed type of cerebral palsy did not have home physical therapy and 4 participants with loose cerebral palsy. Of 102 participants with spastic cerebral palsy, 64 participants had home physical therapy and 38 didn't have. World Health Organization supported basic concept of the Health City, so today in Europe in the Association of the Health Cities there are 16 national networks with about 1000 towns. The Health Plan should be basis of the public policy in development strategy of the city of Sarajevo, and for its conducting partnership between citizens and professional institutions and all level of government is necessary. Conclusion: Continuous physical therapy at homes needs to be implemented for persons with cerebral palsy as disability prevention.
