- Abstract
This article discusses the publication of the second volume of Jacques Derrida's Given Time, which was released in 2021 after a thirty-year gap. The first volume was published in 1991, and the second volume consists of sessions from a seminar held in 1978-79. The article also mentions a symposium held in 2021 to discuss the second volume, featuring papers on various themes in the book. The article highlights the historical and contingent nature of the work and raises questions about its completeness and Derrida's decision not to publish the second part during his lifetime. The text delves into the concept of the gift in Derrida's works, exploring its relationship to freedom, sovereignty, imagination, phenomenology, expropriation, messianism, and reading relations of exchange and donation. It concludes with a translated roundtable discussion on Derrida's writings on money, covering topics of justice and sociality.
