- Title
Rooted in Mobility: Metis Buffalo-Hunting Brigades.
- Authors
Macdougall, Brenda; St-Onge, Nicole
- Abstract
The article discusses the Metis buffalo hunting brigades of the Great Plains. It particularly comments on mobility, socio-cultural organization, and social networks. The authors focus on the Trottier Brigade, which began hunting as a group in the 1830s and was named after buffalo hunt captain Charles Trottier. They comment on their genealogical research and explore their use of Visone Software to create visual representations of social networks. Geographical aspects of the Metis networks and the role of the Red River settlement, a colony and a precursor to the province of Manitoba, are addressed.
