- Abstract
In the summers of 2016 and 2017, McGill University undertook a public archaeology project at the site of the Maison Nivard-de Saint-Dizier museum in the borough of Verdun, in the South-West of Montreal. The archaeological material distributed around the museum and Georges-O'Reilly park forms the largest prehistoric site on the island of Montreal. In addition, many artifacts and structures dating to the historical period have been identified. This excavation site was situated in a public park, and was open to visitors. A public outreach program was offered to clarify the research process. In this article, authored by the project leader, the execution of this outreach program is considered in light of certain theoretical concepts from the academic literature on public archaeology.
