- Abstract
In this article, I will discuss some of the results of fieldwork conducted in 2001 and endeavor to describe the discoveries associated with occupations from between 3500 and 2500 BP. This period, often called the Late Archaic, or Transitional, period, is poorly understood and often ignored because of its apparent lack of specificity. Understanding is particularly deficient when it comes to the transition from the Archaic to the Early Woodland period in Northeastern North America, and especially in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, where archaeological research began only about 20 years ago. However, abundant new data from the Réal site are shedding light on this period, and diagnostic markers are being identified more and more frequently on other sites in the region.
