- Authors
Singh, Ranjit
- Abstract
The article examines the need, problems and prospects of regional cooperation in South Asia. The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was formed by seven states in 1985 to help solve economic, social and cultural problems in the region. Although the prospect of regional cooperation is reportedly strong, a number of issues including volatile political situations, long-standing disputes and trust deficit among members act as stumbling block. According to the author, the region needs a united and organized strategy to meet this goal.
