- Abstract
The article presents an examination of congenitally missing teeth. These are teeth that fail to develop out of the 32 that make up the permanent set of human teeth. The author discusses some of the prevailing theories that attempt to explain congenital teeth. The author dismisses one theory suggesting it is associated with congenital syphilis. The author focuses the examination on finding a genetic basis for the disorder.
