Nephoxaloid (1), possessing an unprecedented tricyclo-skeleton, together with the known alkaloid Caulerpin (2) have been isolated from the soft coral Nephthea sp. Collected in the Xisha island of China. Their planar structures were established by NMR and MS spectroscopic analysis. The cytotoxic activity of them toward a limited panel of cancer cell lines is also reported.
