- Abstract
The author reflects on the World Health Organization's estimates of the economic and social loss to alcohol consumption in Japan in light of two research papers. Topics discussed include a questionnaire survey that was conducted on National Health Insurance beneficiaries, higher inpatient cost for the men whose ethanol intake was more than 450 grams per week after adjusting for age and body mass index and loss of productivity associated with alcohol consumption.
