- Abstract
The article details a study which examined the effects of normothermic perfusion (NP) compared with current methods of organ preservation in a model of controlled non-heart-beating donor (NHBD) kidneys. The authors compared the effects of a period of normothermic preservation with hypothermic techniques using an experimental model of controlled NHBD kidneys. They found that NP with oxygenated blood was able to restore depleted adenosine triphosphate levels and reverse some of the deleterious effects of cold storage.
