- Abstract
The article presents a study which explores the lexical tone and musical pitch in Iu Mien Yao in Southeast Asia. Iu Mien Yao belong to the highland minority people found in the northern part of the said region, where they probably number under 100,000. The paper notes that this study is part of a larger study dealing with the relationship between song texts and vocal melody in Iu Mien Yao. Furthermore, it examines the relationship between words and music in one genre of secular songs.
