- Title
Europe's Muslims: An Integration under International Constraints.
- Authors
CESARI, JOCELYNE
- Abstract
This article discusses international issues surrounding the social integration of Muslims in Europe. Issues relating to the relationship between church and state in Europe are also considered. Issues relating to the establishment of legal protections for Islam in Europe are considered in terms of the established privileges of Christian and Jewish Churches in countries including Denmark, Great Britain, and Greece. Issues relating to the non-hierarchical nature of Muslim leadership are presented as a complicating factor in the assignment of state privileges. Islamophobia and Anti-Muslim attitudes that stem from the fear of terrorism are considered. Islam and multiculturalism are presented as unavoidably connected issues in Europe.
