- Authors
Osofsky, Joy D.; Thomas, Kandace
- Abstract
The article discusses the definition of infant mental health and what aspects must be included to ensure proper infant mental health. The standard definition is the developing capacity of of the infant (from birth to 5 years) to experience, regulate, and express emotions, to form close and secure relationships, and to explore the environment and learn. However, the term "infant mental health" is confusing to some, since it could be understood or translated as "mental illness."
