- Abstract
The article discusses the application of core-back injection molding to polymer foaming. Thermoplastic foaming within a mold cavity was conducted in an 85-ton core-back injection-molding machine. The effects of the core-back rate and gas concentration on bubble growth and nucleation are addressed. Experiments showed that the bubbles dissipated when the cavity was fully packed and that bubble nucleation appeared when the cavity pressure dropped and the mold plate moved.
