- Abstract
The article discusses the advances in battlefield medicine as reflected in declining numbers of military case fatality rates in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Comments of John Holcomb from US Army Institute of Surgical Research in Fort Sam Huston, Texas, on trauma care advances are included. The role of better body armor, redesigned tourniquets and advanced clotting aids and transfusion fluids in preventing fatalities is discussed. The importance of data collection and analysis is mentioned.
