EL ASEDIO LEXICOGRÁFICO A LOS DERIVADOS PREDICTIBLES.

- Abstract
Dictionaries do not usually include all the possible derived words that can be created in a language, since, as it is acknowledged by lexicographers, the meaning of these words can be easily inferred (i.e., it is compositional). However, this decision still allows for some asystematic absences in dictionaries that could be due to either lexical or lexicographical gaps (Bernal 2003). Adelstein and Freixa 2013 point out that, in fact, dictionaries are not consistent when it comes to the inclusion of regular derived words that are semantically predictable, and they suggest that the indispensable criterion that should be followed is that the words should be frequent and present some degree of unpredictability related to their semantic interpretation, their geographical distribution or their spelling. This study presents an analysis of the 100 most frequent formal neologisms in Spanish from the period 2015-2018, extracted from the database of the Observatori de Neologia. The starting assumption is that not all neologisms possess the same degree of dictionariability and, thus, their appropriateness for inclusion can be measured. To this end, different criteria (morphosemantic, documental, etc.), which have been properly weighted and focus on the morphological features, are presented in order to evaluate the suitability of these neologisms as candidates for inclusion in general dictionaries. Moreover, these results are set against the latest additions to the academic dictionary (December 2017 and December 2018), so as to establish objective standards that can guide the lexicographical inclusion of derived words.
