- Abstract
Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common arrhythmias in adults. There is a significant difference in the curative effect between paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) and persistent atrial fibrillation (PsAF) patients. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs and mRNAs (DELncRNAs and DEmRNAs) in patients with PAF and PsAF. Materials and Methods: Two target datasets about PAF and PsAF patients (GSE75092 and GSE113013) were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and further analyzed. Upregulated and downregulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and the co-expressed DEGs (co-DEGs) of the two datasets were identified, of which enrichment analyses and protein-protein interaction network construction were performed. Results: A total of 127 DELncRNAs and 321 DEmRNAs were screened in GSE75092; while 46 DELncRNAs and 64 DEmRNAs were screened in GSE113013. Eight co-DEGs were further identified. The GO analyses of GSE75092-DEGs were mainly enriched in response to virus, positive regulation of cytokine production, defense response to virus, nuclear transport and nucleocytoplasmic transport. The GO analysis of GSE113013-DEGs showed that no significant functions were enriched in any category. And two identical pathways, influenza A and adrenergic signaling in cardiomyocytes, were found in the KEGG analysis of the DEGs between the two datasets. Conclusions: In conclusion, multiple DEGs were found in patients with PAF and PsAF, and their functions were mainly enriched in metabolism and inflammation-related signaling pathways.
