A literary criticism of works by author Franz Kafka is presented, including the novels "The Trial" and "The Castle" and the short story "In the Penal Colony." The opinions of philosophers including Walter Benjamin, Søren Kierkegaard, and Georg W. F. Hegel are addressed. Notions cited include the role of guilt in Kafka's work, his notion of law, and the notion of historical transmission in his writing.
