- Title
Tumour immunology: TGFβ betrays immunity for tumorigenesis.
- Authors
Minton, Kirsty
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ) in interactions between the immune system and tumor cells. The role became controversial since various studies indicated that this cytokine can function either as a tumor promoter or a tumor suppressor depending on the context. According to the author, the engagement of immature myeloid cells to the tumor can identify the switch between an antitum-origenic and a pro-tumorigenic TGFβ-containing environment.
