- Abstract
The article presents a study which examined the professional development practices that support the emergence of distributed instructional leadership (DIL) in six urban high schools in the U.S. It has found that professional development is a major approach used by schools to enhance DIL capacity in urban high schools. It discusses the role of department chairpersons and strong principal leadership in professional development initiatives.
