- Abstract
The article deals with a non-invasive survey of the painting Reader of Dostoevsky, by Emil Filla (1907, oil on canvas) from the collections of the National Gallery Prague. The researched painting belongs to important works of Czech modern art. As part of the doctoral program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, it was possible to carry out above standard optical and physical research methods focused on the painting technique of Emil Filla. The subject of the research included gradually all painting layers, starting from the canvas stretcher frame and the underpainting applied to the ground, subsequently up to all of the painting layers. Final modifications and restoration interventions were also taken into account. Especially noteworthy are the interesting results of Infrared Transmitted photography (IRTR), Infrared Reflectography (IRR) and Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI).
